Beck
"One Foot In The Grave" CD (K)
Proof positive that Beck isn't a loser, he just has a Son House fetish. Some of the tracks on here sound like he squished around in the Mississippi Delta for weeks on end, pulling riffs and words from that beautiful mud. If there was any justice in this world, Beck would be known for "Fourteen Rivers, Fourteen Floods" instead of a silly single that complacent 20-somethings latched onto as an anthem for a demographically challenged generation. But there is no justice, and while Beck's success may help this album rise from obscurity, it'll probably languish in record stores until some kid dusts it off in 20 years, listens to it and realizes exactly how brilliant this record is.
