Chisel
"Nothing New" EP (Gern Blandsten)
I don't necessarily think this is the best thing I've heard this issue, but there's something about it which makes it quite enjoyable. Maybe it's the melodic, chunky riffs which stay crunchy even when soaked in gasoline and set on fire. Maybe it's the emo-styled punk covering this record. Maybe it's my perception of this record as being somewhat upbeat, positive-edged and optimistic. For once, I can't quite explain why I enjoy a record. In Chisel's case, I just do.
"8 A.M. All Day" CD (Gern Blandsten)
This makes me want to smoke and drink too much, especially "Looking Down ...," a song which pretty accurately describes my last relationship. The only problem is that I quit smoking and drinking which leaves me here with this CD and a gnawing ache in my gut and nothing to numb the feeling. Like the man said in "Breaking Up With Myself" - "There will be days I'll forget you / They'll be the days that I make it through."
