The Distillers

"Sing Sing Death House" CD (Hellcat)

It's fast, furious and intelligent, but if it had been condensed and released as a single, it might well have had the last impact and staying power that Bikini Kill's early work possessed. "Seneca Falls" and "City Of Angels" are both outstanding, raw, snarling punk anthems; the remainder of the songs on this record stumble over the music or Brody working to spit out as many words as she can in three minutes. For the most part, "Sing Sing Death House" is noteworthy mostly because a handful of songs suggest that The Distillers may have a brilliant album in them in the future.
