Giant Sand

"Purge and Slouch" CD (Restless)

Nearly 78 minutes of acid-damaged psycho-country roots blues from Howe Gelb and some gigantic Arizona sandworms. This would have been the perfect soundtrack for that Kevin Bacon movie about those huge annelids that ate people. Then again, Purge and Slouch may veer too wildly between silence and noise to provide incidental film music. It's perfect to keep the wolves away when you're sleeping out in the desert though. Apparently Giant Sand's next album is coming out on Imago. Hopefully, Gelb will still be able to get away with releasing stuff like this.
