Whiskeytown
"Faithless Street" CD (Mood Food)
Modern country, right there with Wilco, Son Volt, etc. You won't find much big hat shit here, just drinking and good ol' fashioned redneck roots. You won't find much about Bobbie Ann Mason in these songs, but you will find Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Hank Williams Sr. (never should have been a Jr. In the first place) and Jimmie Rodgers. Is it good? If you like this sort of thing. This isn't exactly my bag of tricks, but I can still appreciate the lilting melodies and steel guitars playing songs which have more to do with bygone times than any newfangled crap which is drowning the airwaves with one-hit superstars of CMT. Now, where'n hell did I leave my bottle of Early Times?
